Matic, Orange Pinot Gris 2023

Matic Wines is a family-run estate in the Štajerska region of north-eastern Slovenia, led by Matija Žerjav. The winery works old family vineyards under biodynamic management, rejecting chemical interventions in both vineyard and cellar. Winemaking is low-intervention and natural, with spontaneous ferments and minimal fining or filtration. The 2023 Pinot Gris (skin-contact style) shows a luminous copper-salmon hue from about 18 days’ maceration on skins. On the nose: fresh red apple, rosehip, wild strawberry and a hint of honey. The palate is bright and lively; red apple-peel, orchard fruit, citrus peel and a soft herbal lift. Despite the skin contact, the texture remains smooth, with a fine tannin grip and a mineral-tinged finish. Crisp, natural and expressive, ideal with shellfish, light white meats or vegetarian dishes.
